Turkey on Wednesday proposed a trilateral mechanism to help protect Kabul’s airport after the U.S. pulls out of Afghanistan. As reported by ANDmagazine, the USG has officially ended its evacuation efforts in Afghanistan following multiple bomb attacks which have killed U.S. Marines at the Kabul airport.

Turkey’s expression of willingness to protect the airport was met with a no from official Taliban spokesperson Zabinhullah Mujahid. Mujahid said, “There is no need for Turkish soldiers at the airport, we will protect it ourselves.” He further stated that “We want good relations with Turkey, but we don’t want is soldiers here.”

Of note, Turkey was providing perimeter support outside the Kabul airport, however, they withdrew their forces Wednesday evening, prior to the Thursday bomb attacks on the airport.
