Brandon Mitchell, juror 52 in the trial against former Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin for the murder of George Floyd, said being in the courtroom for the high-profile case was like “watching somebody die on a daily basis.”
ABC News interviewed Brandon Mitchell following the conviction of Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin for the murder of George Floyd. Mitchell, is the first juror to be interviewed regarding the Chauvin conviction. Mitchell stated that he believed the video of Floyd’s death was the “most important piece of evidence” and also noted that the jurors saw the video everyday.
Mitchell noted that there was one juror who was “slowing them down,” being “delicate with the process” and was “hung up on a few words within the instructions.” Mitchell said that they went around the room and discussed the wording to provide clarification on the instructions to the jury.
